The finish

Smooth sanded walnut.

Walnut is finished differently from the oak in this range: sanded smooth rather than brushed, then sealed with clear UV oil. Nothing is added for colour — walnut already carries its own range, from pale sapwood through to dark chocolate heartwood.

It is a softer timber than oak and will mark more readily, so it rewards felt pads and a doormat more than a busy commercial floor does. Clear oil means marks can be spot-repaired rather than refinished wholesale.

About the grade

Rustic and select, same pack.

Mixed grade means the pack is not sorted to a single grade: rustic boards sit alongside select and nature boards, and you lay them together.

Expect a wider spread than a single-grade floor gives you — some boards close to clear, others carrying sound and filled knots, sapwood and dark streaks. Open and sort the pack before you fix anything down, and spread the character across the room rather than letting it pool in one corner.

KnotsSound and filled knots on the rustic boards; select boards run much cleaner.
Colour variationWide by design — pale sapwood through to dark heartwood within one pack.
FillerTinted filler on knots and small cracks, mainly on the rustic boards.
Batch variationThe grade mix varies pack to pack — order the full quantity in one go.
