Smoked Oak / Straight Plank
Smoked Oak plank carries a 3mm wear layer of European oak on a multi-layered engineered board, 14mm thick in total. Planks measure 190 × 1900mm, with a tongue and groove fitting profile.
The long planks are stored in a smoke-filled chamber to age the timber, darkening the grain to a rich honey tone complemented by areas of darker oak and occasional streaks of blonde sapwood. The planks are then brushed and sealed with cured clear oil, which accentuates their warm hue while maintaining their tactile surface.

Smoked, brushed, oiled.
The timber is chamber-smoked before finishing. Ammonia reacts with the tannin in the oak and darkens it through the wear layer, so the colour is in the wood rather than on it — a cut edge shows the same tone as the face.
Brushing then opens the grain and clear UV oil seals it. Because smoking works on each board’s own tannin content, tone varies board to board and batch to batch; that variation is inherent to the process, not a fault.
Rustic means character.
Rustic grade (CD) works with the natural character of the timber rather than sorting it out. That is worth understanding before you order.
Expect visible knots of varying size, both heartwood and sapwood, colour variation between boards, and small checks and end shake stabilised with tinted filler. These are grade features, not manufacturing defects — they are what the rustic label means.
