Brushed Matt Oak / Straight Plank

Brushed Matt Oak plank carries a 3mm wear layer of European oak on a multi-layered engineered board, 14mm thick in total. Planks measure 190 × 1900mm, with a tongue and groove fitting profile.

Its beautifully tactile surface is created by applying steel brushes to remove the soft grain from the top layer of the oak, following the natural contours of the wood. The rustic top layer is then spray coated with coats of clear lacquer, which protect the surface and give the planks their natural appearance.

Brushed Matt Oak Plank
The finish

Brushed matt lacquer.

Steel-brushed to open the grain, then spray-coated with a clear matt lacquer and UV-cured at the factory. The lacquer reads almost bare to the eye but behaves like a film finish.

That combination is the point — an open, tactile surface with the wipe-clean resilience of lacquer. It suits halls and kitchens, where an oiled floor would want more attention. Lacquer repairs as a coating rather than a spot fix, so deeper damage means recoating an area.

About the grade

Rustic means character.

Rustic grade (CD) works with the natural character of the timber rather than sorting it out. That is worth understanding before you order.

Expect visible knots of varying size, both heartwood and sapwood, colour variation between boards, and small checks and end shake stabilised with tinted filler. These are grade features, not manufacturing defects — they are what the rustic label means.

KnotsPresent throughout, varying in size. Filler-stabilised where needed.
Colour variationBoard-to-board variation is part of the grade. Includes sapwood.
FillerTinted to complement wood tone; may contrast with knots for character.
Batch variationFiller and finish can vary slightly between batches — order in one go where possible.
