A hallway first, then the rooms either side of it.
We fitted Mike's hallway in January 2022. Three years later he asked us back for the two rooms that open off it, and the same floor now runs through all three.

The hallway
Carpet out of the hall, a wood floor in. The hall runs about seven metres, its width varying between one and two metres.
Mike had ordered samples direct from V4 and knew which one he wanted: EP103, Golden Stained Oak. We fitted it from Monday 24 January.
At each doorway the new floor met carpet, so each doorway got a threshold strip.
The two rooms
Three years on, Altin went back to measure the lounge and the dining room.
We sent two quotations: the new area on its own, and both areas done at the same time. Together was cheaper, and that is the one Mike took. He asked for a start on Monday 7 April 2025; we told him three to four days.
Joining the new floor to the old.
With the same floor going into the rooms, the strips had nothing left to do. We took them out, lifted the 2022 boards back from each opening in a stagger, and cleaned out their tongues and grooves by hand so the new boards could engage without chipping a three-year-old edge. The new floor was then fully bonded into that line with Bona R848, a hard-elastic adhesive that holds the floor firmly while allowing for the wood's natural movement. The joints in the doorway fall where any other joint falls.
The floor already down was covered while we worked across it. The architraves were undercut so the boards run beneath them, which hides the expansion gap the floor needs at its edges. Cut around the moulding instead and that gap has to be filled, because beading cannot go there. The boards come in random lengths, so lengths were chosen as the floor went in, to keep the joints staggered. Each room was laid a half at a time, furniture moved across and back.
Mike's hallway had been looked after. Three years on, the boards were still good enough to run new ones into.
The 2022 boards lifted back from the opening in a stagger. From the dining room, looking into the hallway — the stairs face this doorway, the lounge door is to the left.
An offcut of the room's carpet, laid face down to protect the existing floor while the old boards were chipped out, and the architrave undercut for the boards to run beneath it.
Furniture to one side to lay the other half. The boards against the wall are lengths being picked to keep the joints staggered.

The middle of the dining room laid, looking out to the hallway and the stairs. The edges go in when the furniture comes back across.
